You are daredevil type of person who always want to have new experience. You have gone through a backpacking trip when you have to tackle with hash weather in the North of America with only one of the mosteasy up camping tents, but it seems too easy for you. And this time, you want to try something that is extremely thrilling. May be you are thinking of diving? Those countries with warm, crystal, and clear water you have already seen and you want something new? You are fed up with turbid water like a pea soup at your nearby beach so yo got to looking for something else? You still want clear water, but you want water that is somewhat cold? Go beyond your comfort zone and try a ice diving! What is it? Ice diving is a 'specialty' within recreational diving. As a diver, you can do any special training to ice diving in a safe way. Here you have to hold two samples of your certification card before you may participate in the specialty. Within the program, you are taught how to make a ice diving safely and how to be well-prepared before you leave the course. At a ice diving, there are two divers dive together under the ice. There is an air hole opening for the divers. Ice diving is always done with an entire team. The divers are attached to a rope, to give a compound with the team created above the ice; the surface team. An ice divers team consists of: - Two divers underwater; - A Master: He sends the divers under water, on the basis of a signal line; - Area coordinator: He sends team to the surface; - Rescue Diver: This person is going to water when there is an emergency; - Helpers: they help the divers in the water to go, and when they need out of the water again. Visibility is often good at ice diving, because the water comes to rest under the ice. Because of the ice above them, it gives the divers a thrill. Equipment As ice diving is important and dangerous so that some adjustments are made in the diving equipment. The next ice divers should equip these things in any circumstance: - Cap when it is not attached to the suit; - Gloves and boots; - Goggles; - Snorkel; - Fins, beware: fins which are used in the pool are not generally suitable for diving in the open water; - Lead, a known weight belt or vest; - Regulator & Octopus; - Pressure gauge and depth gauge; - BCD (Buoyancy control device) - Divewatch; - Dive Light; -Diving knife; - Buddy Line. You should have a dry suit, so it does not get wet to the skin. This reduces the risk of hypothermia. In addition, a ice diver should always have an external regulator. Because of the cold temperatures, the regulator may freeze, so that breathing is no longer possible. An external regulator is the solution in this case. Risks Ice diving has risks of its own; diving is indeed a risk sport. Because of the harsh conditions, there are some risks for ice divers where divers do not suffer in other circumstances. It is important that ice divers can rely on the team where they currently operate. Undercooling When suffer the low temperatures of water, ice divers quickly become hypothermic. By wearing a dry suit, this risk is somewhat constrained. Yet many divers suffer from mild hypothermia when they come out of the water again Freezing machine In the ice water, the diver can become hypothermic, the machine can freeze. In order to counteract this danger, all ice divers need to wear an external regulator with them. When their normal regulator becomes frozen, they can safely return to the man out. Returning The ice divers must once again go upward. Different from a swim in open water, there is now a thick layer of ice over their heads. The divers are often dependent on the signals they receive by play of the team surface. Where can you have ice diving? Basically, you can have ice diving anywhere where the ice is thick and safe enough. You should, however, take into account the proper equipment and ensure that an experienced team is assembled. In the Antarctic and by Iceland and Norway for example, you can often make very beautiful ice diving. Ice diving are often offered in an excursion form, a team of divers go ice diving together in a week.
